Hawks Ridge K–6 School Gets the Green Light: Construction Is Officially Funded

Big news for families in the Big Lake area: the new K–6 school in Hawks Ridge is no longer just on the drawing board. The Alberta Government has fully approved and funded construction, moving this project from design to reality.

If you’ve been watching this story unfold, you’ll remember that design funding was approved for this school last year. Design was always the first step, a necessary one, but a step nonetheless. Construction funding is the moment a school stops being a plan and starts being a place. For the thousands of families already living, or planning to live, along the shores of Big Lake, that’s a milestone worth celebrating.

The Hawks Ridge school site is located approximately a 4-minute drive or a 10-minute walk along community pathways from the Trumpeter showhomes.

From Design to Dirt

Design funding covers architecture and tender documents. Construction funding is what actually gets shovels in the ground. With this approval, the new Kindergarten to Grade 6 school in Hawks Ridge has cleared its final major hurdle before building begins.

The school will be part of Edmonton Public Schools and, upon completion, is planned to accommodate up to 650 students in grades Kindergarten through 6. It’s one of several projects the Alberta Government has committed to as northwest Edmonton continues to grow. An opening date has not yet been determined.
